Bob Richter 12/18/2010 - The designer's Christmas tree
I've been working with Bob Richter, master interior designer, on his website and digital advertising efforts for awhile now. This Christmas I was invited to do a portrait session with him and his tree. Every year Bob artfully transforms an arsenal of vintage ornaments and decorations into an amazing display and this year's celebration was one of the biggest and brightest ever.

Indie Film Promo Shoot 11/20/2010 - Lighting design and set photography for independent documentary
Strange combination of duties: lighting designer and set photographer for an indie doc. That doesn't happen everyday, but when it does I'm happy to handle it. In this particular instance, the story involved Ron, a man grappling with his alzheimer's-afflicted father and his (in)ability to understand his life choices. Beyond the shots taken we wanted to use post-processing to further elaborate on and enlighten Ron's struggle. You can see some of the results in the people section.

JPMorgan Chase shoot for The Way Forward 11/4-11/5/2010 - JPMorgan Chase shoot for The Way Forward, Part II
Next in our series of films for The Way Forward campaign, we visited Part of the Solution in the Bronx. POTS is located in the poorest county in the United States. They struggle with too few resources and too little space. But their challenge to restore dignity to an impoverished community is met by a determined group of staff, volunteers, and benefactors. Currently, JPMorgan Chase is helping POTS finance construction of a new building that will enable them to carry out their mission in ways never before imagined.

JPMorgan Chase and The Way Forward 9/12-9/16/2010 - JPMorgan Chase shoot for The Way Forward, Part I
The Way Forward is a program we (mcgarrybowen) developed for JPMC to highlight the positive impact they've had and continue to have on communities, small businesses, and homeowners across the country. This shoot specifically was a documentary-style effort to meet Chase loan advisors and the families they've helped avoid foreclosure in and around greater Los Angeles. We fillmed from West Compton to Sun Valley meeting people one-on-one to get their stories. Carol and the Lucky Duck Rescue & Sanctuary was one of them—a hopeful and inspiring story about a woman who got to keep her home and her dream.

Macy's 4th of July Fireworks 7/4/2010 - Eye level with Macy's 4th of July Fireworks
When the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks are being shot off along the Hudson River and you have access to a rooftop along said river, you don't pass up the opportunity. Words can't really describe, so hopefully a selection of photos can do better.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management 6/11/2010 - 2010 photo/video project for J.P. Morgan wraps
Every two weeks for the last few months (give or take a month in China) I arrived at the 50th floor of 47th and Park Ave to spend a day shooting a cast of Portfolio Managers and heavy-hitting C-Suites as they divulged privileged information on how to navigate the recession, statistical arbitrage, Munis, and more. The content and images were part of the award-winning "We Believe" campaign for J.P. Morgan Asset Management and featured such esteemed strategists as Dr. David Kelly (pictured) and Andrew Goldberg.

Trans Siberian Orchestra's Angus Clark in Guitar World 5/18/2010 - Photos of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Angus Clark published in Guitar World
Over a year ago I did a shoot for some personal projects Angus was working on (CD art, website redesign, 8x10 glossies for autograph sessions...y'know, the usual). Today I found out they're still workin' as Guitar World came through with a use for them too. Schwing.

USA pavillion at Shanghai Expo 2010 5/1/2010 - Giant video wall at USA Pavillion launches
It's thrilling to see a project materialize before your eyes, especially when it's as impressive as this. The film of Zhou Xun projected onto 20 separate monitors spanning 20 feet wide and rising 12 feet tall is simply amazing. Hope you'll visit Shanghai and see it :)

USA pavillion at Shanghai Expo 2010 4/18/2010 - Landed in Shanghai to cover Expo 2010
Arrived today to install the video wall at the USA Pavillion and check in on a few other projects I have going on there: branding of the VIP lounge and another film that will run on the exterior jumbotron. Since it's two weeks prior to the official opening I'll also be documenting construction progress of the world pavillions. Fortunately, photographing every haibao (pictured) I see isn't on the shot list. If it was I'd be out of gigabytes before Monday.

Zhou Xun at Shanghai Expo 2010 2/27/2010 - Shooting Chinese superstar, Zhou Xun, in Hong Kong for Shanghai Expo 2010
Undertaking a unique opportunity to produce a film for the USA Pavillion at Shanghai Expo 2010. The film will espouse the Expo theme of "Better City, Better Life" and star Zhou Xun (pictured), China's answer to Meryl Streep or Kate Moss (depending on who you ask). The finished piece will be presented on a larger-than-life video wall and feature VFX and post-production by the exceptionally talented artists at Mantra. The piece is co-produced by Gung-Ho Films.

SAVE Benefit 12/12/2009 - Covered Sing for S.A.V.E. event
Every job brings its own unique energy and excitement, but sometimes the work transcends the definition of "job" and achieves something much more meaningful, momentous even. Tonight I was asked to document a benefit for S.A.V.E. Animal Rescue—a non-profit, no kill, all-volunteer rescue headquartered in Whitestone, New York. Myself and two dozen performers donated our time and talent to this gala concert and blow out reception to benefit puppies, kitties, and animal orphans that need our help (sniff).

A big win for the Lions as they beat the Brown Bears black and blue, 28-14, to end the season on a high note. (Yeah, that was my attempt at sports writing. Yeah, I'll stick to sports photography.)

Ben Hodges' Theatre World Volume 65 11/1/2009 - Looking for the Pony: Production stills published in 2008-2009 edition of Theatre World
Theatre World is described as "the beloved and most complete annual record of the American Theatre." And I won't disagree. It's an honor to be included in a publication that exists to celebrate this ephemeral art and share pages with Elton John (Billy Elliot), Geoffrey Rush (Exit the King), Daniel Radcliffe (Equus), and the hundreds of other artists who brought down their respective houses.

Bargains and Blood at FringeNYC 8/21/2009 - Bargains and Blood: Production stills published in fringeNYC's Propaganda
Did my best to keep up with the manic cast of this fringeNYC entry as they bounced off the walls and gushed fluids all over the floor...and tables...and chairs...and, well, you get the idea. However diabolical it may sound, this story of how to succeed in home shopping fills the frame with over-the-top hilarity.

Looking for the Pony in The New York Times 2/21/2009 - Looking for the Pony: Off B’way production stills published in The New York Times, New York Post, and Backstage.
Contracted by Vital Theatre to shoot production photography for the Off Broadway show, Looking for the Pony. The show stars Tony nominee J. Smith-Cameron (Our Country's Good, As Bees in Honey Drown) and celebrated character actress Deirdre O'Connell (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Synecdoche, New York) in a tragic, but fuzzy-feeling tale of two life-long friends torn apart by breast cancer. Photos appear with rave reviews in major print and online publications.
